» APPEARANCE: Harvey is a man that dresses well. Harvey came from nothing and it's probably safe to assume that his desire to dress well stems from the fact that he can. Also his job requires him to dress up, but Harvey takes it to the max. He has a suit guy and can often be seen in the show ribbing on another man's bad choice of a suit. He's the best closer in New York and he's determined to stay that. Which means looking good. Harvey's hair differs in many lights. He typically wears it slicked back, but the color changes. It can appear almost blonde in the right light. Often it appears dark brown. He's got dark brown eyes and is in relatively decent shape for a man going into his forties.
» PERSONALITY: It'd be easy to peg Harvey Specter as an arrogant ass with far too much ego, but it's not the whole picture. It's true, but not everything. Harvey on more than one occasion has been known to gloat and sing his own praises. Most of the people he works with don't like him due to his arrogance. Though he has great reason to be. Harvey always gets the job done and claims to never be wrong. He almost always makes himself out to be the strongest hero when Mike makes movie references. He claims to be Batman and Mike is Robin.

Harvey Specter is a man that actually has integrity. He's a little morally askew, but not that bad off really. While he worked in the mailroom of Gordon Schmidt Van Dyke he found out about an associate trying to lie and cover his own ass. Harvey took it to Jessica and insisted she do something about it. While he worked as the ADA under Cameron Dennis he found Cameron trying to bury evidence. Harvey wouldn't stand for it and left the firm. Harvey has shown that while he is ruthless that doesn't mean he has no soul. He understands wrong and right. Harvey was also the one who was put onto the case to find out who was embezzling money from the company.

Harvey has a moral code that he deems right. He'll sleep around with multiple women, but he won't sleep with married ones. He adopted this when he found out that his mother was cheating on his father for years. Harvey said nothing and it destroyed his father. It's easy to see that Harvey has some resentment pent up towards his mother concerning that. He lashes out against Tanner when he tries to bring it up. Granted other things were discussed, but when he talks about what happened to his father it visibly pains Harvey. It's obvious he doesn't want to put another married man through that sort of pain.

He is a decent human being, but don't let him know that you've seen it. Harvey has built up extremely tall walls that keep most anything undesirable from troubling him. His relationships barely last and it's easy to see via the way he speaks of his parents that it stems from their problems. He doesn't like to invest and it becomes easy for him to cut them loose once he's done. He can be extremely charming and playful when he's put in the right situation, but don't let that attitude fool you. Harvey can be extremely ruthless as well. He appears to have the ability to entice a female that claims to have no interest in him. This is proved in the pilot when a cocktail waitress actually says she won't sleep with him and Harvey just smiles. The next morning she's seen at his place and suggesting they go for another round in his bed before he goes into work. Nothing emotional came from that though. Harvey develops no emotional ties beyond basic pleasure and witty banter. Even then he doesn't even need witty banter since he gets that from Donna at work.

He's no saint. That's the important thing to remember. He's incredibly charming and suave, but that's not always him being truthful. Harvey has been known to bend the rules in his firm, but never break them. Often his behavior earns him a win at the firm and his misconduct is overlooked by Jessica Pearson. Harvey has his own set of rules he plays by and often they're very basic. When he's assigned a new client he's supposed to win over Harvey doesn't go for ass kissing. Harvey shows him places where he's vulnerable. He hires a PI and has them follow the man around and take photos of his indiscretions. Harvey presents the photos to him later during their first meeting. Harvey is not afraid of confrontation. He will go into a courtroom fully prepared to turn it into a war if he has to.

The walls that Harvey has built up at almost impossible to see over sometimes. He can come off as emotionless and callous, but Harvey just reserves his human emotions for those he cares about. Even Mike has called him uncaring. Harvey can be genuine and caring when the person deserves it. Harvey despises pro-bono cases, but when his driver requires his services Harvey has no trouble jumping into it. Harvey loses his walls when he's handling Mike on occasion and when he's around Donna. Donna is the only person who can talk to Harvey like a child and get away with it. She's the only person who can put him in his place and not be torn into. This is seen multiple times throughout the season when she tells him he messed up not politely. His walls are also broken down when he's around Jessica. She gave him the shot he was looking for and Harvey never makes a move against her except for later in the seasons when Jessica tears into him about some merger issues. Harvey bites the hand that fed him, but at this point in his life Harvey can't imagine going against Jessica ever.

Probably the most important thing about Harvey's personality is Donna. She lets Harvey be himself. He's told her in the later seasons that he can't be him without her. He goes against orders and insists on getting Donna back once she's fired in the later seasons. His self reliance on Donna is extreme. They met when he worked for the District Attorney and Harvey has never been able to let her go. They did have a fling though once they both quit, but they were back to being friends when he went to work for Jessica Pearson and Daniel Hardman. They buried the feelings they developed while working under the DA and have remained just friends. But it's plain to see that Harvey would do just about anything for Donna. She fake cries and convinces him to let her parents stay at his apartment. She's his moral compass when he does step over a line. She keeps his life running so smoothly he can't imagine being without her. When he finds out in the later seasons about what Stephen Huntley did this drives Harvey to have a physical altercation with him in the bathroom. Harvey seems content to let the evidence stand, but when he sees that Donna is visibly upset and shaken he seeks the man out. He then proceeds to throw him around the men's bathroom like a rag-doll. Donna is his one constant and having her upset doesn't sit with him. Without her it's easy to see he doesn't function well. In later seasons when she's fired Harvey takes more risks than usual. He begins to spiral. Harvey needs her and she's the only person he's willing to tell that to. When Louis tries to negotiate getting Donna in a bet Harvey is seen telling him "Donna is the one thing I can't give you".

The last person that means a damn to Harvey is Mike. Mike is a chance that Harvey is willing to take. Mike has no degree, but Harvey hires him anyway and covers that up. Harvey likes to think he sees a little bit of himself in Mike and that's why he's nurturing him. The whole reason he hires Mike is because he thinks he's gonna be another him. He sees spark and the ability to think beyond the box. Donna's the first person to turn Harvey onto Mike when conducting the interviews. Harvey is essentially risking his whole career on one kid. Some consider that arrogance, but who actually knows. Harvey protects Mike even if Mike sometimes thinks that Harvey would throw him under the bus. While his attachment to Mike isn't as strong as Donna that doesn't mean he doesn't like Mike any less. It's also possible to say that Mike might be Harvey's only real true friend these days.
